Originally I was going to use this canvas (presented above) to showcase a self portrait and my perspective on nature. The focus above relates to how I view open spaces in nature. I noticed this setting in a symbolic sense can generally leave one feeling a sense of vulnerability but for me this setting depicts a sort of rose covered safe haven in the technological age. After much thought I decided to make this painting a moment dedicated to nature and what it can be and at times truly is. My other point relates to how beautiful nature is in general. It can be considered rose colored at times but it is often the reality of nature. It can visibly look unreal, but all works presented showcase what visualy could be a depiction of reality in rare present moment. This is strictly layered oil(s) on canvas. The first layer (presented above) ended up being used for reference because of rips in the original canvas. All works presented herein follow the same process used to get the result presented above
When working with oils on canvas I generally start with the darkest shade of the pigment(s) I plan to use after my initial base has been applied.
I did this by using color theory and customizing each color as I went along.
This is a photograph of the ground of a forest. I took this photo while on a hike and wanted to use it as another reference because of its extensive visual texture and vivid color of grass, minerals, and soil
